I recall one instance while I still had fibroids, having sex and blood gushed out of my vagina.

Here I was shocked and embarrassed because no, I wasn’t expecting my period!

As a matter of fact, I had just menstruated a week before, but obviously if you are reading this and have symptomatic fibroids you will probably relate to the fact that irregular periods seem to be a normal.

Well, let’s just say that this was one of the many scenarios of a messed-up sex experience I encountered courtesy of fibroids.

I am jotting down this post to help you who has fibroids understand why it hurts to have sex, bleeds after or during sex. or the low self-esteem you have had to deal not forgetting your very bloated stomach.

Let’s tackle each of these issues one at time.

Low Libido

With having fibroids this only translates to one thing, that your hormones are all over the place!

Due to a fluctuation of your hormones, your libido tends to be lower resulting to no desire for sex and when it’s there it tends to be so low.

Solution: Find other ways of being intimate with your partner.

Get a little creative! You will be really grateful that you were!

Painful Intercourse

When you have fibroids, penetration seems to be so painful and unbearable.

Why?

The fibroids tend to put pressure on the uterus during sex and depending on the location of your fibroids, for instance, those hanging low on your cervix this could also result to painful sex.

Also, a loss or decrease in vaginal discharge may make sex unappealing to you!

Solution: Try positions that are more comfortable for you.

Try lubricants that could help fix the vaginal discharge issue and make foreplay more pleasant.

Irregular bleeding

I had already mentioned this before!

Fibroids, depending on where they are located and the size may cause or lead to irregular bleeding.

For instance, for me even after a 5-day period, my period would show up and last for an entire month.

With irregular bleeding sex becomes uncomfortable, because you are worried about creating a mess and being embarrassed all at once.

Solution: Get creative! Find other ways of being intimate!

Body Image

Fibroids cause you to look bloated and pregnant practically always!

This may decrease your sex libido; as you feel unattractive, especially because you look pregnant in most of your outfits resulting to low self-esteem!

Can we also talk about how uncomfortable you feel when you are bloated?

‘Stella’ can’t get her groove on looking and feeling like that right?

Solution: Do activities that help you feel like yourself again.

E.g. Wear make-up, do your hair, find outfits that flatter your body and don’t necessarily make you look pregnant.

If you are reading this and have experienced the symptoms mentioned above, I hope you found this article helpful!

Thanks for making time to stop by here.

Much love,

Tabby
